Prologue
September 28, 2016
The rain beat
down hard on the ground. I could hear it even though I was underground. It was
heating up outside, the snow was already starting to melt. I was huddled in a
tight circle with my brothers and friends. We knew that if we made any noise we
would be caught and killed. I didn’t want to know the feeling of a bullet
through my chest. We could hear the sound of running feet above us. It wasn’t
the sound of one of two sets of feet; maybe nine or ten. Then, all the sudden,
everything was silent, we couldn’t hear anything. We thought they were gone.
They couldn’t be. They were just here. We all stood up, and we slowly made our
way to the door. We all stood there for a second, staring at each other. We all
pushed the door open and no one was there. There was no bodies, no evidence of
life. All we heard was complete silence.
Chapter I – The Van
September 23, 2016 – Five
Days Earlier
“Breakfast”
My mom was
always the mom that made sure we had a good breakfast every morning. “One
moment,” I needed a few more minutes to get ready for school. I just got out of
the shower and was packing my backpack. I started to walk out of my room when
my phone buzzed in my pocket.
“Hello?”
“Hey! It’s
Ethan. Can Scott, Garrett, Andrew and I get a ride to school?”
“Sure, but you
need to meet me at Copper Canyon Elementary, I need to drop off my brothers than
I will have enough seats in my car for you all.”
“OK, Thanks
you’re the best!”
“No problem,
my friend.”
The cool part
about my new phone is that I could answer the phone without touching it. I
grabbed my wallet, keys, concealed weapon, iPod Classic, and Bose headphones
from the drawer of my nightstand. I scanned the room to see if there was
anything that I needed to grab before I went to school. I remembered that I
plugged in my backpack battery before I went to sleep the night before. I
unplugged it from the wall and carefully set it in the side pocket of my bag
that it was designed for; I scanned my room once more and walked upstairs for
breakfast.
I walked into
the kitchen, the table was set and it smelled like heaven. I sat down and got
ready to eat. I took a quick glance at the clock it was 7:17. I had to have my
brothers at school at 8:15. My mom started to bring out the food. I walked into
the kitchen so I could help her bring out the rest of the food. I was amazed,
as always, at all the food my mom made. There were eggs, pancakes, muffins,
bacon, toast, waffles, ham, sausage links, and my favorite, all the fresh
juices that she squeezed every morning. She had apple, orange, grape,
cranberry, strawberry, and all the other fifteen kinds of drinks that she made.
The amazing thing was is that she made these every morning and they were gone
by the end of the day. The reason is because she was raising four boys that
were in high school and one that was in junior high. And we brothers would eat
a lot. I walked back into the dining room and there all my brothers were,
feasting away. I sat down and stacked my plate high. I finished my food with
about thirty minutes left until I had to take my brothers. I ran down to my
room and quickly checked my e-mail on my customized desktop computer. I checked
the website that I was going to but a Tungsten Carbide ring from to make sure
that it was still on sale. I worked on a little bit of a homework project that
was due on the 27th. After I finished editing the Prezi
presentation, I glanced over at the clock. It was 7:53. I played one of my
tactical war games on the computer until it was time to go. When the clock in
my room showed 8:10, I turned my computer off, locked the door, and ran
upstairs to start the car.
I sat in the
driver’s seat waiting for all my brothers to grab their things and get into the
car. We owned a 2017 Ford Club Wagon. It was a customized car that we designed
and ordered. The car had an amazing speaker system that was designed especially
for us by the Bose music company. It was September and Christmas music was
already playing on the radio. I needed to wait until the first major snowfall or
really cold rain to listen to Christmas music. They all started to come out the
door so I turned on the heat and plugged in my iPod Classic into the AUX input
on our radio and started to search for a song that would be great to start to
listen to pump us all up for the day. They all buckled up, I backed out of the
driveway and blasted “Code Name Vivaldi”.
We drove down
the street and started to make beats with the song. We finally made it to the
school and Helam, my brother in sixth grade, and Jacom, my brother in fourth
grade, hopped out of the car and headed into the building. I looked around for
my friends that wanted a ride. I couldn’t see them anywhere. I was starting to
think that they got a ride to school with somebody else. I started to pull out
of the parking lot and they ran around the corner.
“Sorry we’re
late, there was just this man in a van that was chasing us and he had a Taser.”
“Are you
serious?” Ethan gave us the news as we got into the car.
“It looked
like there was only one guy in the car, but as they got closer to us, the
sliding door opened even though we couldn’t see anyone in there.” Garrett told
us how they drove off. “They were in a 1980 Chevrolet Express. It was white and
there was no license plate on the front or the back. We got away after we ran
through a few yards.”
“We probably
should go to the police and tell them.”
We drove my
brother Abram to school and dropped him off at Clark N Johnson Junior High
School. He needed to go to school because he had three tests that day and
needed to pass them to go to high school the next year.
We prepared to
head down to the police station to tell them of this suspicious van. We were
all hungry because we were teenagers. We all stopped by Macey’s, our favorite
grocery store in town. We got out of the car and went into the store to buy a
few treats. Scott went around and grabbed a few gluten free cookies and
crackers. Garrett grabbed some cheese for the crackers. Hyrum ran to the
coolers and grabbed one so we could keep all of our food cold. Zeram ran to
grab some PowerAde and sodas. Andrew got some Hostess cakes. Ezrom got some ice
to put in the cooler. Ethan went to the snacks and grabbed some chips. I waited
at the front of the store after a got a few deli sandwiches. We all got to the
checkout and the cashier scanned our items. The total was close to one hundred
dollars. I pulled out my debit card and paid for the items. We walked out of
the parking lot and got into the car and drove to town hall.
We drove down
Main Street until we got to town hall. We parked on the side of the building
next to the building where they wrote the Transcript Bulletin. We all got out
of the car and entered the building from the east side. We looked at the
building directory.
Scott found
the police offices first on the list, “The main office is on the third floor.
We need to take the elevator.” We all crammed into the elevator and hit the
button for the third floor. We all filed out of the elevator and went to the
main lobby on the third floor.
“I think it’s
down there.” Zeram had keen eyes and he could see the sign of one of the
bulletproof glass doors. We all slowly walked down to the door and walked into
the office.
“May I help
you?” the secretary asked as we finished filing into the room and the door
closed behind us.
“We need to
talk to the police chief. We had a suspicious car chase some of us in our
neighborhood today.”
“One moment
please.” The secretary left the room and returned shortly. “The chief is in his
office, he is in a meeting with someone right now, and if you just have a seat
he will be finished shortly.” We all turned around and sat in the comfortable
leather chairs. We filled up all the chairs except for two of them. There were
a few magazines and manuals on the side tables and the coffee table. There was
an assortment of booklets about addictions and the many things that citizens
could do to help the police force in our small town. From across the room I saw
Andrew eyeing the one about the new computers that they were making that could
be worn on your face just like glasses. We all heard a door open and we all
turned to see an elderly woman, maybe in her late seventies, walk out of the
chief’s office and leave the station. We all stood up and walked toward the
office door. I spied a small bowl of candy on the front desk.
We closed the
door behind us as we were about to discuss private business. The chief was a
muscular man, with a strong jaw and large biceps. He sat at his desk, leaning
back, eating a donut and drinking a large cup of coffee. He didn’t look like he
was in the mood for this discussion. He looked up as the door closed behind us.
“This morning
we saw a 1980 Chevrolet Express that was trying to cause trouble. There was one
man that we could see. He was driving the vehicle. He had a Taser and was
trying to shoot some of our friends as they were heading to Copper Canyon
Elementary so we could pick them up for school. There was no license plate on
the van; we are worried that they are going to do something terrible to
someone.” Hyrum told the complete story to the officer and the officer just
picked his teeth as Hyrum relayed the story to him.
“Just be on
the lookout for the van again. If you come into contact with it again just call
me and I can hire some officers to be on the lookout when we know the area that
it is in.” You boys better get to school.
We exited the office
and all grabbed a piece of candy on the way out of the station. We all entered
the elevator with nothing to say.
“We need to be
careful, they might be following us.” There was worry in Ezrom’s voice. As we
exited the building and climbing into our car, we saw the Chevy Express round
the corner and cut us off from our exit.
We all stared
out the windows of the car; we were all so surprised that they found us. How? Ezrom
ran out of the car toward town hall. He must have been thinking ahead of
everyone else. He must have been going to get the police. I started to back out
of our parking stall. I didn’t know what we were going to do. Ezrom then burst out of the building. As he
was running there were pieces of pavement behind him that were being chipped
and scratched. They were shooting at him. He dashed behind the car and we all
ducked down so we wouldn’t get shot. They stopped after Ezrom got into the van
and I punched the gas. We wheeled over the curb and around the corner into the
neighborhood behind town hall. We had to find a way to get out of range of
their guns and their view. We sped through the neighborhood and tried to find a
place to hide the car. We looked around searching yards to see if we could pull
off an escape. There was a park that was in the area that I knew of. I was
thinking that we could use that to our advantage.
“I’m going to
call the police station. We need to inform the chief that we found them again.”
We all agreed that it was a good plan. Hyrum dialed the police station number.
The phone rang and rang. We were worried that they would not respond. They were
probably trying to ignore us. The phone was finally answered and Hyrum stayed
calm as he told the story to the officer. “The van that we told you about just
ten minutes ago is chasing as around the neighborhood behind town hall.”
“Okay, I have
officers on the way to chase down the car if you can, drive down to Main Street
and head north. I will have officers waiting to ambush the van.” We drove down
Vine Street until we got to Main Street. We were pulling 40 MPH heading down
Vine. We peeled around the corner and I stroked the gas pedal. We started
accelerating until I decided to go the maximum of 70 MPH. Cars started swerving
out of the way so they wouldn’t get hit. The street was clear and we zoomed
down the street. The police cruisers were hiding behind the buildings on Utah
Avenue. We were almost going 80 MPH. The cars swiveled into view in the
rearview mirrors. The van was trapped in between the police vehicles.
I didn’t care
to look up and see what was happening. I turned off Main Street on 1000 north.
I turned into our neighborhood and dropped all my friends off at their homes.
We didn’t want to go through any more troubles today. We all went home and were
ready for anything that would hurt us. We were all ready to ambush back.
®R®R®®®R®R®®®®®®®®®®R®R®®®R®R®
That night we
all gathered at my house to hang out and do something to get our minds off of
the predicament that we were in earlier that day. Ezrom almost got shot; we
were speeding down Main Street and were almost caught by murderers. We all hung
out in my room. I had accommodations for everyone. My room was a good size and
there was everything to do. They all started to arrive at about 6. Andrew
arrived first and told me he did some research on the van that we saw. I didn’t
know he did but the whole time we were being chased he was doing research on
the van. He was able to research about the old types of 1980 Chevrolet
Expresses. There was only a few hundred that were still on the road.
“So there were
only fifteen that were registered in Utah this past year. Ten of them were in
Saint George; five of them were in Salt Lake City. I tracked down the different
ones still on the roads. Two of the ones that were registered in Salt Lake City
moved down to Moab. One of them was in a car wreck, only one of them was in
Northern Utah. I’m guessing those are our guys.”
“That means
that all we need to do is find the guys that own that Express and take them
into custody.”
“Yeah, but it
will be hard to find the men. They had no license plates, which must mean they
didn’t want to be caught. It will be hard to find them. They must have a
computer genius due to the fact that I can’t track them.”
“You keep
working on tracking them. As we find a way to get rid of them, you can help us
find them and exterminate their causes.”
Everyone
started to show up and they all brought different kinds of food. We hung out
and just relaxed. We were all so excited for Christmas Break that was coming up
in a few weeks. We rented a few movies to watch. I bought The Fugitive, it was my favorite movie. We all hung out, playing
video games, watching TV, the best thing we did we was play Apples to Apples. The night went on and
we had some fun. We got bored of playing video games.
“We should watch the news, I have current
events tomorrow.” Abram needed to watch the news for the next day. We turned
the television to channel 5, KSL news.
“KSL news at
ten starts right now.”
“The top story
this hour is one out of Ogden. A 13-year-old boy was kidnapped. He was walking
home from school when a group of 15 men driving a 1980’s Chevrolet Express
jumped out of the car and grabbed him. This occurred at around one o’clock this
afternoon. Jason Bourne has the top story for us. Jason.”
“Yeah, this
afternoon a teenage boy was grabbed and stashed into the back of a 1980
Chevrolet Express. He was let out of the van after a high speed chase down I-15
and I-80.”
®®RRRR®RR®®®®®®RR®RRRR®®
The van drove speedily away down I-15. The
police were called when the boy didn’t come home 15 minutes after the boy was
taken. The police radioed all the officers in the area that a boy was kidnapped
and to keep an eye out. All of the police and law officers in the area were
alerted and they all replied that they were all watching. A highway patrolman
was stationed at a semi-truck off ramp in Southern Kaysville. He was eating a
maple bar and was drinking an eggnog hot chocolate.
“There has
been a kidnapping in Ogden. A 13-year-old boy was kidnapped. We believe he was
taken on his way home from school. Be aware of any suspicious vehicles, over
and out.”
“10-4. I
understand. I will keep my eyes open, over and out.” He sat in the driver’s seat,
updating his computer and monitoring the traffic on the freeway. Most cars were
going a decent speed. He wasn’t an officer that was really strict on speed. He
didn’t mind if they were going 10 MPH over the speed limit. He was driving a
Dodge Charger. Just then a Chevrolet van sped more than 100 MPH down Interstate
15. The officer turned on his lights and sped after the car.
He raced onto
the on-ramp and saw the van in the corner of his eye. He merged into the
carpool lane. As he finished merging into the carpool lane he turned on his
sirens and sped up to 120 MPH.
Chapter 2 – The Crush
September 24, 2016
I woke up the
next morning. It was Saturday. I sat up in bed and gazed out the window. It was
raining. It was finally time for me to listen to Christmas music. The rain was
cold and it reminded me of Christmas and the cold weather ahead. I hopped out
of my bed. My room was clean, my friends and brothers helped me clean my room
before we all split for the night and went to bed. As we finished watching the
news the night before, Andrew knew that the vehicle that kidnapped the boy from
Ogden was the same one that chased us. We decided that we would call the police
in the morning.
I walked
across my room to my alarm clock and turned it off. It was 10:00; my mother
never let me sleep in. What was wrong? I walked up the stairs and looked into
the kitchen. Nobody was there. I checked the calendar on the refrigerator and
on the 24th of September, three of my brothers had a doctor’s
appointment. Where were the twins? I texted their phone and they told me they
were at their friend’s house playing basketball. They told me that mom told me
to clean the kitchen and the bathrooms then I could go hang out with my
friends. Ezrom was still asleep. He always slept in until the early afternoon.
I quickly
cleaned the kitchen and moved on to the bathrooms. It took me about one hour
and a half to clean the kitchen and bathrooms. After I finished I went down to
my bedroom and listened to my favorite music group The Piano Guys and Daughtry.
I also played Lord of the Rings Battle
for Middle Earth II. I decided that after a few levels to go and play games
in the rain with my friends. I called Garrett and he was busy working, Andrew
was at work with his dad, Scott went to California to visit his family for two
days, Ethan was the only one that was able to hang out. We needed a few more
people to play night games. Ezrom woke up and was willing to hang out. I asked
him if he had any friends that he wanted to come to play games in the rain. He
suggested that we invite some girls to come and party with us. I thought it was
a great idea.
We called some
of our friends to see if they could hang out for the day.
“Do you really
think this will be fun?” Ezrom had doubt in his voice.
“Of course, I
think it will be a party. Why wouldn’t it be?” I went into the kitchen to find
a snack to eat. I found a lemon meringue pie pudding in the corner of the
pantry, I also found a descent sized bad of baked potato chips, I grabbed a Dr.
Pepper before I went downstairs to my room. Ezrom was in my room looking at the
new computer monitor I bought. I put my food on my desk and started playing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. My
brother watched as I played for 20 minutes. A few minutes into my game I got a
few text messages from some of my friends that told me that they could hang
out. I responded to them and told them to meet us at my house.
I turned off
my computer and hopped onto my bed. My brother sat on the sofa that was in the
other corner of my room. We talked about some games that we could play and
about where we could play them. We took out a map and created some boundaries.
“I think we
could use the field and our whole neighborhood.”
“But, it’s
raining and I think that we will need a bigger area sue to the fact that people
will be really easy to track in the rain.”
“The people
won’t be able to travel as fast in the rain as much as they do in the
summertime.”
“Actually,
that sounds like a good plan we can include the field and our neighborhood. We
could make the boundaries: 1000 north, 520 east, 2000 north, and the west side
of the field. We don’t want to have to go all the way to Main Street.”
“That’s smart”
Just as we were finished creating the boundaries the doorbell rang. We both ran
up the stairs and stood at the front door. Ezrom opened the door and found
Ethan standing and the front door. He invited him into the house. Ethan sat
down at the end of the kitchen table and was panting for oxygen.
“I am so ready
for this. We have wanted rain for so long and we really need some this winter.”
We were all praying for rain since it was rare in Utah to not have rain at the
end of September.
“There are a
few more people coming, but we could always use more people. You can invite
more people to come and participate.” Ethan dug in his pocket and took his
phone out. He texted a few people and returned his phone to his pocket.
“I texted a
few people to come. I figure with an area that big we will need a lot more
people than you invited. So I texted twenty other people.”
“That’s a lot
of people. Do you think they will all come?”
“I hope they
will. It will be a better time with more people than less. I even invited that
one girl you like.”
“But, she doesn’t
know that, and I bet you she doesn’t even know my name.”
“I bet she
does, you are one of the most popular kids in school. After you and your
brothers preformed the What Makes You
Beautiful by The Piano Guys, everybody
knows you and your family.”
“Please tell
me why you had to invite her.”
“I knew you
liked her, so I want her to get to know you.”
“Fine, but if
she hates me because of today it’s all your fault.”
“She won’t
hate you, I just want you to get to know her better, and she to get to know you
better. That’s all.”
“Okay,
whatever you say.” The people started arriving and we decided to get started at
noon. At noon I taped a sign to my front door that told everybody to go to the
middle of the field west of my house, by the big tree.
RRRR®R®®R®RRR®®®®®®RRR®R®®R®RRRR
We all gathered in the
middle of the field. It was still raining and there was already a couple inches
of rain on the ground already. We were ready to start and there were people
still coming to play that we could see just entering the field. We decided to
first play capture the flag. We set the two flags at opposite ends of the
field. The field was quite large and Ethan was right to say that we need more
people.
“See, even this isn’t
enough people and we have twenty-three and counting. But, it might make it more
fun with this many people.”
“Well, I think the rain
could be a good thing or a bad thing.” The rain was always fun to play games
in, but you get really dirty in the rain.
“Okay people,” Ethan
shouted, “we are going to start. We decided to play capture the flag. Everyone
take one of these walkie-talkies so you can communicate with your team and the
other team. We have some rules, the boundaries are 1000 north, 2000 north, 520
east, and the west edge of the field. Does everyone understand?” Everyone
nodded in agreeance. “Okay, we need to figure out who is here so we can split
the teams evenly.” Ethan counted out the people that were present. There were
24 people and that was plenty for the game we were going to play. “Okay, all of
the seniors over this way.” Ethan directed the seniors to one side of him. He
directed the rest of the high school students to all the different sides of
him.
Everybody was standing in
a circle except for the Jones kids that were not in high school. There were
three left: Abram, Helam, and Jacom. There was not enough for one person to go
on each team. We needed one more person to play to make all of the teams even.
Zeram and Hyrum decided to invite one of their friends that barely moved into
the area, Taylor Moore. The back of his house faced the field that we were
playing in. They quickly ran over to his house and knocked on his bedroom
window. We all saw him open the window and exchange a few words with Hyrum and
Zeram. They started to run back to the group of us in the field, and a few
minutes later Taylor joined us to play Capture the Flag.
R®®RRR®R®®®®®®®®®®R®RRR®®R
I gathered
with my team of fourteen people. We were all huddled in a group on the south
side of the large field. We had a plan that some people would attack the other
team’s base from straight on. Some other people would make their way through
the west side of the field, and the last group of people to make their way
through the neighborhood and way their way around to the other side of the
base.
Jacom, Ethan
and six people from school were elected by our group to go down the main two
roads of the field and down the riverbed down the center of the field. Three of
the other guys from school were picked to go around to the west side of the
field. I was chosen to go with Hyrum, and the girl I like, go figure, to go
around through the neighborhood.
The eight
people made their way down the different roads of the field, keeping their eyes
out for any signs of the neon green flag. Ethan made his way down the small
ravine stopping at regular intervals to duck down and observe the area around
him. The people on the other team were very smart and probably knew our
tactics. Ethan was a very smart and knew how to get away and knew how to get
around their defenses.
Zeram ran down
Lindy Way on the south side of the road. He was keeping in position to see if
there was anyone on the other side. He was watching so Madi, the girl that I
liked, and I could make our way down the north side of the road. We made our
way slowly down the road and turned down 490 east. We quietly made our way up
the street. The yards were quite muddy due to the rain. It was hard to move
through the yards without making noise. We tried to be quiet as we approached
the midpoint of the playing grounds. My street was marked as the mid line of
the field. We got to the top of the street, Madi carefully looked down both
sides of the street as Zeram and I hid behind the house on the corner. We had
to be careful because if we were seen beyond this point than we could be found
and caught.
We carefully
made our way down to the corner of the other side of the street and peeked
around the corner.
R®®RRRR®RR®®®®®®RR®RRRR®®R
Hyrum stood at
the edge of the road that was the south boundary of the game. He was watching
his team advance up the field. He was the leader of the team because he was the
smartest. After the group of people split into their separate groups, Hyrum was
elected by everyone in his group to be the leader. He gathered all of the
people on his team and created a plan. He created a plan to ambush the other
team. He was a great mastermind at the tactics on attacking other people, so he
assigned part of his team to go through the neighborhood and the other part to
carefully watch the field.
RRRRRR®RRR®®®®®®RRR®RRRRRR
I turned the
corner of 1480 north with Madi and Zeram. We were almost halfway to their flag.
We were warned about the oncoming people. We rounded the corner and ducked
behind a hedge because at the end of the street was Taylor. Taylor was a really
fast, he could run the 100 meter dash in less than 11 seconds!
R®®®R®®R®R®®®®®®®®®®R®R®®R®®®R
Ethan could
see the flag on front of him ten feet away, but Garrett stood about ten feet on
the other side of the flag. He was being very cautious about going straight the
grabbing the flag. He watched as the rest of his team made their way down the
field hiding in the weeds. They were being very secretive. Ethan peered around
the corner of a few houses to see what was taking us so long to get to the
elementary school. Then he noticed the problem. Taylor was standing at the head
of the street waiting for someone to come out so he could conquer our team. Ethan
threw a few rocks to try to make Taylor move away from the street but he would
budge. He was very smart about this game.
®R®R®®®R®R®®®®®®®®®®R®R®®®R®R®
We all
finished playing games during the day a few hours later and we all gathered at
my house for everybody to drive away or for their parents to come and pick them
up. We all gathered in the family room and sat around drinking ice cold
lemonade and enjoying each other’s company. One by one each of the people left.
Hyrum, Zeram, and Ezrom went to hang out with Taylor and I was left to stay at
home and make sure all the other people left. One hour later there was only
three of us left Ethan, Madi, and I. We were all chatting when Ethan got a text
that his dad needed his help with a project at home, so he left. We waited for
another ten minutes, then Madi texted her parents again to come and get her.
They said they would get there in about five minutes. We chatted for a few more
minutes and then her parents texted and told her that she was right outside. I
showed her to the door and she gave me a big hug and thanked me for the
wonderful time. I was surprised because most girls wouldn’t give me a hug.
I went
downstairs and took off my clothes and stepped into the shower. I took a cool
shower and washed all the dirt and grime off of my body. The shower felt
refreshing and nice. I stepped out of the shower and put on a nice pair of
clean jeans and a t-shirt, disregarding the time, I went into the kitchen to
find a snack to eat. I looked into the pantry and found a jar of peanut butter
and a piece of pita bread. The spread a decent amount of peanut butter on my
bread and ate the sandwich. I didn’t know what to do next. My parents wouldn’t
be home for a few more hours and my brothers would probably be home at 11 o’clock.
I decided to
watch a little bit of television and text a few of my really good friends. I
flipped on the television and looked through all the current programs on. There
was nothing really good on so I went to the DVR and watched the first episode of
my favorite television show Granite Flats.
I watched Granite Flats since I was a kid. It was a TV show produced by a
university television station in Utah.
It was around
5 o’clock when I finished watching television. I got up from my chair and
walked in to the kitchen. I wanted to do something that would be fun. So I
called Ethan and asked if he wanted to party at my house.
Ethan came to
my house in his new Black Honda Accord, he parked across the street and knocked
on the door. I answered the door and let Ethan in. We jumped onto the couch and
played Call of Duty Nazi Zombies for hours until he left for home. My family
was still not home, it was 11 0’clock, but I was so tired so I went to bed.
Chapter 3 – The Break-In
September 25, 2016
I woke up the
next morning with a terrible headache. I faded throughout the day and I felt
better by 10 o’clock. I was relaxing at home when my phone rang. I glanced at
the screen and Ethan was calling. I picked up the phone and tapped the answer
button.
“Dude, crazy
stuff. I woke up this morning to some loud crashes and bangs. This was a before
daylight. I peeked out the west window in my garage and the house next door was
thrashed. The windows were shattered and doors pried off of their hinges.”
“What happened?
Did the police show up? Did they escape? Why did they do that?”
